A circle sits inside a quadrilateral ABCD so that all four sides just touch it — a tangential quadrilateral. Drag the four touch points around the circle to reshape it. Because each side is tangent, the two tangent segments drawn from any corner to its neighbouring touch points are equal. Pitot's theorem says the sums of opposite sides are equal: AB plus CD equals BC plus DA. The four side lengths and both sums are shown live. An info button opens a drawer explaining the theorem.

AB + CD = BC + DA
Drag the four touch points around the circle. Every side stays tangent, so the opposite-side sums always match.
